Installing Taxshield Peronal Tax Manager software in a network environment
Make sure you have at least 1.5GB of disk space available.
To install software on a Windows computer, you must have administrative rights over that computer.Administrator status can be granted as:
- Local administrator - on a single computer, or a computer in a workgroup
- Domain administrator - over all of the computers in a domain
The installation process on a network system has to be performed in two parts, firstly the installation of the programs and creation of the database.
This takes place while sitting in front of the server. Secondly Taxshield PTM needs to be configured to run over the network. This takes place on the workstations.
At the Server
If the Taxshield DVD is already in the drive, however it fails to auto load Go to start; Run and type E:\ PTM2010.exe (where E:\ is the DVD drive on your server).
You will be shown the PTM pre install notes, select [NEXT] to continue.Now select Network Version as the installation type then select [NEXT] to continue.
Before starting the Personal Tax Manager setup, the installer will check for pre-requisites such as. Microsoft installer 3.1, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005.
If these are not present they will be installed automatically once [NEXT] has been selected. If Microsoft installer 3.1 needs to be installed upon completion you will be required to restart the server.
Selecting [NEXT] will install the remaining prerequisites. This screen may take a little while to give you the option to click next.
You must agree to the license in order for the installation to continue, select [NEXT] after accepting the terms.
The following screen will give you the option to change the destination folder of the PTM installation; this must be the local drive on the server.
Once the destination directory as been chosen select [NEXT], the installation will now commence.
When the files have finished being installed, you will be prompted to run the Personal Tax software, select [FINISH] to exit install. After the server installation is completed, share the folder with Full Control to access the “PTM Client 2010.exe” from the workstations.
At the Workstations
At the workstation to be configured navigate to the shared folder on the server that holds the Taxshield PTM files. This can be done either by browsing to the folder, or by typing in the name of the shared folder.
We want to run the file called “PTM Client 2010.exe” in the PTM folder, the path will be something like \\servername\share\ (replace this path with the correct path for your environment).
Once you have selected the client “PTM Client 2010.exe”, the installer will Start to run. The workstation setup will initialise after a few moments select [NEXT] to begin PTM client install requirements. The installation will install SQL client components if these are not available.
Having installed PTM client requirements select [NEXT] to install the PTM client on to the workstation.
You must agree to the license to continue the installation, select [NEXT] after accepting the terms of the license.
The following screen will give you the option to change the destination folder of the PTM installation.
